MARLI SIU STARS IN CATHOLIC CHOIR COMEDY FILM ‘THE SOPRANOS’

Screen Daily’s ‘Star of Tomorrow’ Marli Siu has been cast in the coming-of-age tale, based on Alan Warner’s 1998 novel ‘The Sopranos’, about a group of wild Catholic girls who compete in a national choir competition.

Set in Scotland in the 1990s and taking place over the course of a single day, director Michael Caton-Jones’s film follows the choir of Catholic schoolgirls who are in Edinburgh for a music competition but are more interested in “going mental” — drinking, partying and hooking up — than in winning the competition. A cult hit in Britain, Warner’s novel has previously been turned into a stage play.

CAST ANNOUNCED FOR APPROACHING EMPTY

Nicholas Khan and Karan Gill will join the cast of this Tamasha, Kiln Theatre and Live Theatre co-production. Set in the North of England, in the aftermath of Margaret Thatcher’s death, this compelling drama by award-winning playwright Ishy Din (Snookered, Best New Play at Manchester Theatre Awards), lays bare the everyday struggles of a post-industrial generation of British men.

The production opens at Kiln Theatre on 14 January, with previews from 9 January, and runs until 2 February. Following performances at Kiln Theatre, the production tours to Live Theatre, Newcastle; Tron Theatre, Glasgow; Assembly Roxy, Edinburgh; Derby Theatre; Belgrade Theatre, Coventry; Curve, Leicester; Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, and Coliseum Theatre, Oldham.

SARA KESTELMAN STARS IN PARADISE

Sara Kestelman will play ‘Amanda’ in the world premiere of Dusty Hughes’s new comedy Paradise, at Hampstead Theatre, which looks at the cost of growing old and the joys of ageing disgracefully.

Old friends Amanda Goose and Roddy Meakin are enjoying their twilight years on their own terms – outrageous pranks and clandestine gins in the garden, adult magazines at the dinner table and a healthy disregard for the other residents. All is idyllic – until, that is, new management is brought in to restore order…

Directed by Alice Hamilton, Paradise plays from 7 Dec 2018 – 19 Jan 2019.
